Synopsis of Richard J. Hay’s speech
“Financial Services in Bermuda – Looking Ahead”
International financial services are under scrutiny. “Offshore” financial services, in particular, are subject to an array of tax and regulatory initiatives pursued individually by powerful countries and collectively by the OECD, G7 and G8. Big changes to international corporate taxation are in prospect. Programs like FATCA and public registers of beneficial ownership will provide an X-ray of international financial affairs, reducing personal confidentiality.
Transformative change is underway in the offshore world. How will it impact a successful centre like Bermuda?
