Gary L. Phillips is an ex-officio Member of The Bermuda Society’s Committee of Management and is the Society’s Coordinator in Bermuda.
He is recognised as a valuable resource in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution as a facilitator, mediator and arbitrator. Educated in Bermuda and in Paris, France, Gary has taught at both the tertiary and secondary levels. Over three decades, he served in the Bermuda public service as a teacher, Postmaster General, Director of Tourism as well as acting for the Secretary to the Cabinet during the final stage of those negotiations leading to the signing of the Tax Treaty between the US and Great Britain (on behalf of Bermuda). Gary also served as a reporter for the 1979 Constitutional Conference and has represented Bermuda at several conferences overseas. Now Deputy Chair of the Employment Tribunal as well as a member of the Permanent Arbitration, Gary is associated with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Fluent in French, Gary is currently a consultant in the area of tourism and alternative dispute resolution.
